What is Reiki?

Over recent years Reiki has become a widely used therapy in the west. It is based on working with, and channelling what may be called universal energy or spiritual energy. This energy is also sometimes referred to as 'chi'. The idea is to harmonise and balance the energy system so that the body is in the best possible state for healing to occur on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

Reiki has important similarities to conventional spiritual healing, particularly in terms of the things that people feel when they are having a Reiki treatment. Many people see the Reiki energy as having divine origins, and interpret the energy as divine love or divine light. Reiki opens you up to the divine, however you wish to interpret that; Reiki reinforces your individual connection to your deity, and it feels beautiful. Because Reiki is not attached to any religion or belief system, though, it does not conflict with an individual's beliefs, or lack of beliefs, so Reiki is acceptable to atheists and believers of all faiths alike.

What is a Reiki treatment like?

During a reiki treatment you lie, fully clothed, on a treatment couch and the practitioner will put her hands on various parts of the body in turn. All you need to do is relax. What you actually feel can vary enormously but the most common sensations are: relaxation (sometimes to the extent of falling asleep), heat, seeing colours, floating or sinking sensations, emotional release.

Feedback from clients

"Dear Melanie, I just wanted to let you know how helpful your Reiki sessions have been.  I find that in my everyday life, I am less anxious and more energetic.  It really has been quite a revelation and I intend to continue on a monthly basis. Thank you for your help and care." Dominique

"I think of your sessions as a 'Spiritual massage'! I feel wonderful at the end, peaceful and calm and ready to face life again." Maureen

"Every session feels different even though the room and what you are doing is the same. I really like the feeling that it gives me. It's difficult to explain to someone else how just putting your hands on someone can have such an effect." M.O.
